Place Setting #1

A sampling of some of the linocuts I made in 2001 are pictured here.

Patterned Star

With the exception of the top piece, the majority of the shapes in the rest of the images on this page all come from currency. Some obviously US currency, but some from foreign currency I have collected. It was interesting to see the new $20 come out in 2003 with some color after I had done these pieces - though I am certainly not the first to declare US currency to be quite boring as color goes. It is sad to see much of the interesting decorative elements being scaled back in favor of a cleaner look. I think there are far too many cooks in the currency design kitchen to come up with anything wonderfully visionary.

The work shown on this page has been shown at several places in Seattle, some of it is still available, and I can still create new original images from the existing blocks.

I now see each print as unique and am treating them more as a unique collage than as "editions". I am re-using my lino blocks in multipe prints often to build up texture. The complexity will gradually increase in future work as I master this new way of layering images. Patterned Star is the most complex to date, it has more than eight layers. (more about my linocuts)

Comments most welcome! --Scott.

All sizes are roughly the lino block size - not necessarily paper or frame size. If you want to know the full frame size or to see a newer image of the print in the frame, just ask. The older work is getting a lower priority in being updated on the website.

There is another in the Five series not pictured that is both Five prints side by side on the same 18 x 24 print, blue on light blue. The two fives shown on this page were orignally carved together on the same block.
